I casually browse Twitter and read news on my mobile phone but i find the form factor unsuitable for reading long form articles. Next one that I find useful is Instapaper. I will cover more of Zotero and I explore further and also evaluate other products that offer similar capabilities like Endnotes, Roam Research and Obsidian. It automatically saves all metadata of those files an also gives you the ability of creating tags and add notes. You can not only add URL’s but also documents like PDF’s, Word Docs and other files that you collect on the internet.
Instapaper folders install#
Its highly extensible so you have a massive list of extensions that you can install to extend the functionality further. I have installed extensions for edge, Chrome and Firefox so basically all my browsers are covered. Depending on the browser you need to install the extension that will allow you to sync with your collections.
Instapaper folders software#
I am still a newbie but looking at this overwhelms me on the scale and power of this software and the infinite possibilities at your disposal.Īfter you install the installable on your preferred platform, you can create folders to categorize your collections. Here is an example from the Zotero webpage. I came across Zotero, which is a open source software and its been a good experience so far form a notetaking and research gathering perspective. I also do a lot of research for specific topics and for that I need a mechanism to collect my research and index it and add notes and make it searchable. There have been instances where I need to revisit some topics and as usual the general tendency is to search and explore further. My main focus in on reading the daily news and covering topics that help me do my job better. I have decided to use the following tools and for the next month I am going to assess whether this has increased my productivity or bought some measurable reduction in the number of tabs across my browsers.

Your attention is at a premium and unless you consciously plan to prioritize that attention you are like that kind in a candy store. The general tendency to keep opening topics of interest in multiple tabs gives you a sense of satisfaction that you will have a plethora of news to consume. I read across 2 devices primarily, my mobile and laptop and I wanted to once and for all get rid of my guilt associated with periodic tabs destruction. You think you are efficient with multi-tasking but whatever books I have read and multiple research studies online indicates that multi-tasking is a poor implementation to productivity and is a time sharing algorithm that is not applicable to humans. The bookmarks and the tabs remain in a state of stasis, constantly reminding me of my attention deficit. Its become a chore to manage them and the resulting tab proliferation renders my machine in a state of persistent memory exhaustion.īookmarking tabs for future reading does not solve the problem. One of my intentional resolution for this year is a dramatic reduction in the number of tabs I have open at any given point of time across my multiple browsers.
